Ancient Space

While the complexities of modern physics may be too confusing for many of us to handle, one thing that’s both easy to understand and amazingly awesome is the fact that the powerful telescopes that look out into space are also looking back in time.

The new Dark Energy Camera that’s just taken its first images, recording light that started on its journey to us eight billion years ago.

Agencies in the US, the UK, Spain, Germany, Brazil and Switzerland collaborated for eight years to bring the project to fruition. The aim is to better understand the force that’s driving the universe apart at an as yet unexplained, increasing speed.

It’s better not to think about that too much.
